INGREDIENTS


1/2 cBread crumbs
1/2 cOnions; chopped
MEATBALLS
1 Egg; beaten
3/4 cFresh sauerkraut
1 cChicken broth
1 lbApples; cored, sliced
1 1/2 lbRed cabbage; chopped
1/2 tsEach: marjoram; caraway seed
1 1/2 lbLean ground beef chuck
2 tbGrated onion
Black Pepper; to taste
3/4 cFinely chopped apple
1 tbSugar
1 tsSalt
CABBAGE MIXTURE
2 tbRed wine vinegar
4 slBacon; chopped
1/4 cFresh sauerkraut
1/2 tsMarjoram
DIRECTION


For meatballs, mix first 9 ingredients in bowl. Shape into 16 meatballs. Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp. Remove bacon with slotted spoon and set aside. Brown meatballs in bacon drippings until browned on all sides. Remove to a warm platter. Add remaining ingredients to pan. Heat to a boil, stirring frequently. Add meatballs.

Simmer, covered for 30 minutes. Spoon into serving bowls; sprinkle with reserved bacon.
